When Chinle High School (Navajo Nation) / SAGU American Indian College (SAGU AIC) student-athletes Chance Harvey and Dewayne Tom signed their letters of intent to attend and play basketball at SAGU AIC, no one knew they would be co-stars in the new Netflix Documentary “Basketball or Nothing”. Today, many who watch Netflix and follow basketball have heard their names and know their stories.

Harvey and Tom were teammates and best friends on the Chinle High School boys’ basketball team that was filmed by Netflix camera crews during the 2016-2017 basketball season. The show is focused on a team and a community that has the Arizona Boys’ Basketball State Championship in their sights.

During the final episode (6), Tom and Harvey are shown signing their NCCAA national letter of intent to attend and play basketball at SAGU American Indian College. As freshmen at SAGU AIC, Tom and Harvey played on both the Varsity and the Developmental squad. Their overall work ethic, mental toughness, and selflessness showed in the documentary were the same attributes that make them building blocks of the newly re-established SAGU American Indian College Men’s Basketball program.

“We are proud to call them family,” said Paul Labate, SAGU AIC Athletic Director. “We know with student-athletes like Harvey and Tom, Warrior Basketball will obtain future success on and off the court.”

Harvey and Tom will return to campus August 5th, 2019, for their sophomore year to begin work academically and athletically. Warrior Basketball opens at home October 18th, 2019, against Tohono O’odham Community College with the first-year Women’s team playing at 5 pm and the Men’s team following up at 7 pm. The Warrior’s men’s and women’s teams play at the Scott Activity Center located on the campus of SAGU American Indian College 10020 N. 15th Ave. Phoenix, AZ.
