On Saturday, November 3 2018, the SAGU AIC Warrior’s men’s basketball team traveled to Whiteriver, Arizona to conduct a basketball camp in the afternoon and play an exhibition game that evening. The opposing team, Identity Hoops, is a collection of Christian men who formerly played college basketball as well as for European professional teams.

The camp was a huge success with over 50 boys and girls participating. There were over 4,000 in attendance at the basketball game. Several Apache and Navajo reservation communities were represented in the crowd.

The Warriors were overmatched in height and experience, but put in a strong performance, losing 117-104.

Coach Tom Kuyper said he wanted to play everyone who traveled with the team so all 20 players received playing time, including JV players. Kuyper was pleased with the team’s effort, noting that they never gave up and kept fighting back. The crowd was decidedly one-sided, especially when Whiteriver’s own former players were in the lineup.
