On August 24, 2018, SAGU American Indian College hosted a festive welcome dinner for all its new student athletes. Over 190 people converged on AIC’s Ramsey Dinning Hall and Henson Chapel for a lively and moving event. Parents and students listened to SAGU AIC President David Moore speak on the topic “What it is to be a Warrior.” During his speech, there was a captivating magnetism that could be felt campus wide.

This year nearly half the student population of SAGU American Indian College will be student athletes. In order to meet their needs and give them a great experience, President Moore addressed these key points: (1) The addition of expanding the “Warrior Dinning” menu and food choice options. (2) Establishment of “Warriordemics” to assist student athletes with study options and discipline. (3) Athlete participation each Wednesday in separate “Warrior Worship” held in the library. This special worship time will include guest speakers, topics related to athletics and options for how athletes can expand their faith of Our Lord Jesus Christ.

Discipline, focus and teamwork have been a theme for our student athletes since their arrival on campus. SAGU American Indian College Coaches Deidra Dale (Woman’s Volleyball) and Tom Kuyper (Men’s Basketball) have young squads they plan to mold into synergetic teams that exemplify the “Warrior” spirit.

The 2018-2019 athletic and academic year will be one of fluctuation and steady growth. With the talent of AIC’s new athletes and their coaches, upward growth will sprout and bloom. We are blessed to have so many great student athletes on our campus. We look forward in the coming months to watching our “Warriors” compete.
